Define "interior."

In June, government agencies were asked to provide data about contractors working for them in Iraq, including their nationality, a description of their work and locations where they were working. The information was provided by more than a dozen entities within the Pentagon and a dozen outside agencies, including the departments of State and Interior.
Iraq is now part of the interior of the U.S.? Or is this one of those, “it depends on what the definition of is is” types of things?

That’s probably the USGS - I really doubt the BIA is getting involved in Iraq. Although come to think of it, they have plenty of relevant experience in harassing the natives.

Oh OK. I thought maybe it was the Office of Wildland Fire Coordination , since the various coalition forces and mercenaries seem to need help coordinating their fire.

to cut overhead, abu ghraib and other US contractors in iraq were/are domestic, not military, hires. this was started under clinton.
it looks like there’s also some environmental consulting going on. i wonder how many more holes in the ground DOI thinks will provide necessary aeration for cultivation of peace.
on a less-clear scale, remember those little pacific islands members of the coalition of the willing? well, aid to them is administered by the department of the interior’s office of insular affairs.
